What are gallstones?
Gallstones form when bile stored in the gallbladder hardens into stone-like material. Too much cholesterol, bile salts, or bilirubin (bile pigment) can cause gallstones.
What causes gallstones?
bile contains
-too much cholesterol
What causes high cholesterol in bile?
As the body metabolizes fat during rapid weight loss, it causes the liver to secrete extra cholesterol into bile, which can cause gallstones. Fasting. Fasting decreases gallbladder movement, which causes the bile to become overconcentrated with cholesterol.
– too much bilirubin
something is temporarily stressing your liver, such as a new medicine or a high dose of alcohol. It could also indicate an acute or chronic liver disease. Some causes include: Infections such as viral hepatitis and mononucleosis.
– not enough bile salts
two conditions that are associated with higher risks of bile salt malabsorption. These are Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome
liver dieseases where hepatic cells are not eble to produce it
Or when the gallbladder does not empty

GALLSTONES OBSTRUCTING THE COMMON BILE DUCT

acute cholangitis (bile duct infection)
pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes)
severe abdominal pain
sepsis (life-threatening bloodstream infection)
severe cases, even liver failure if left untreated
